Dual Citizenship

The children of Ecuadorians born in any other country can obtain the nationality of their parents. This is known in Latin law as UIS SANGUINIS. The parents transfer the nationality to their children.

In order to obtain dual nationality, it is necessary to comply with certain legal and administrative requirements and procedures, starting with obtaining the respective birth certificate or birth certificate in which the name of the Ecuadorian nationality parent or parents is stated. This certificate must be legalized through the Apostille. If it is written in a language other than Spanish, it must be translated, notarized and apostilled and the parents must go to the Civil Registry or Consulate with the documents mentioned above so that their children born in other countries can benefit from the Ecuadorian nationality of their parents.

It is important when the children travel to Ecuador to state that they have dual nationality and the immigration authorities will presume that they have such condition.

Dual nationality has been in effect since 2009 for Ecuadorians; and since then we have served thousands of compatriots with counseling and successfully performing dual nationality for their descendants.
